The waltz is slow. A quickstep is, well, quick. But the tango is pure passion. Cheek to cheek, forehead to forehead, drawing in and drawing out, dance partners communicate through an unspoken language. And We Call It Tango in Tampa is a performance inspired by this social dance’s allure and role in the culture of Argentina, Latin America, and beyond.
Places are limited for this experience in Tampa taking place on select dates over the coming months. Sit back and relax as love, loss, and longing are conveyed in every syncopated beat, lively note, abrupt movement, and tap.
What is “We Call It Tango”?
It is a captivating show that follows the life story of Amelia set in the ’50s at Villa Malcom, Buenos Aires. Two professional dancers and two musicians will take the audience through a three-part performance featuring thirteen different tangos. A symbol of resilience, the tango is presented in its most authentic form at this one-of-a-kind production in Tampa.
Tango, its music, and the show
One might ask, “What makes the tango so special?” Many things actually, including the fact that the only way to dance to Argentine tango music is to dance the tango. Furthermore, dancers are expected to build on what they already know of the conventional steps and embrace improvisation. And you can get a real sense of this at We Call It Tango while listening to the bandoneon and piano, watching the connection between the dancers.
Songs by legendary Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, Osvaldo Fresedo, the “King of Tango” Carlos Gardel, and more will be performed on the night.
Everybody knows “it takes two to tango.” We Call It Tango is ready to show audiences how two people can own a dance floor and a room. So, what are you waiting for?
