From historic parades to extravagant celebrations in the street, Pride Month is one of the biggest and most joyous events of the year. As the warm summer months roll in, finding a way to get involved with Pride celebrations without having to deal with Florida’s sweltering temperatures can be difficult. To help get you in the Pride spirit without running the risk of overheating, Candlelight invites you to celebrate the very best of queer musicians at this sensational concert taking place in St. Petersburg this June.
Illuminated by a sea of flickering candles, The Birchwood Hotel will be providing the perfect backdrop for this intimate Candlelight concert. With classical renditions of songs from the likes of Elton John, Janelle Monáe and Frank Ocean, you’ll hear some of the most beloved hits by iconic queer artists who have been proudly flying the rainbow flag for many years.
Without the help of pioneering artists like Elton John and Sam Smith taking the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights to the mainstream, we may not be where we are today when it comes to equality for queer people. From sharing heart-felt coming out stories to including queer themes in their music and lyrics, these musicians have helped give the community a much-needed voice for the past 50+ years.
Over the course of this remarkable evening, you’ll hear songs that have helped challenge stereotypes, changed attitudes and broken down barriers for queer people. You’ll feel all the feels thanks to the moving melodies of Your Song and The Story before snapping your fingers to the uptempo rhythms of Unholy and Montero (Call Me By Your Name) all performed by the brilliant Listeso String Quintet. This Pride Month, Candlelight is our gift, and “this one’s for you.”
